Free parking on Good Friday

St Helens Council is offering free parking on all council car parks and on-street pay and display bays this Good Friday (Friday 25 March).

Chalon Way, Tontine and St Mary’s car parks will be open from 8:30am to 18:00pm and can be used by shoppers looking to get their last-minute Easter bits and spectators attending the 15:15pm match at Langtree Park between Saints and Wigan Warriors.

Why not take advantage of this by arriving into town early to pick up that Easter outfit you’ve had your eye on from one of the town centre’s high street and independent shops – or enjoy a spot of lunch in one of the many highly rated restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars around town to whet your appetite before the big match?

St Helens town centre is also home to a range of museums and entertainment venues including the award-nominated Theatre Royal, shortlisted for Entertainment Venue of the Year at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards - while the North West Museum of Transport in Hall Street and the World of Glass both attract thousands of visitors each year and are well worth a visit.

From 25 March -17 April, the Theatre Royal will be showcasing the popular pantomime, Peter Pan, starring Ray Quinn. Easter pantomimes always prove to be a smash-hit in St Helens, so get your tickets now by visiting www.sthelenstheatreroyal.com  or call  01744 756 000 to avoid disappointment.

St Helens Council Leader, Barrie Grunewald, said: “The Easter period is always a busy occasion in St Helens, with the Saints vs Wigan Good Friday fixture one of the biggest events on the sporting calendar. To celebrate this, we have decided to offer free car parking to welcome as many people as possible, no matter what side of the hill they’re from, into the town centre to enjoy what we have on offer here in St Helens.”

All other council car parks can be used free of charge and used for a later exit.

Normal trading hours apply at Church Square Shopping Centre (9:00am - 5:30pm) and the Hardshaw Shopping Centre (8:00am - 6:00pm) – while St Mary’s Market will be open from 10:00am -16:00pm.
