Council’s helping hand for workplace health
St Helens Council staff will be on hand at St Helens Chamber’s Business Fair next week where delegates can find out about the various workplace health opportunities open to them – and undergo a free health-check.
Workplace health is relevant to all businesses, no matter how big or small, for a healthy workforce can not only enhance business performance, boost staff morale and improve employee engagement; it can also lead to financial benefits as a result of reduced sickness absence, improved productivity, and reduced staff turnover.
In St Helens there’s a unique opportunity for organisations to demonstrate their commitment to the wellbeing in the workforce through funded practical support and advice available from the Workplace Wellbeing Charter and health checks.
With support from St Helens Council, 26 businesses in the borough have now registered for the Workplace Wellbeing Charter – a statement of intent from business owners who are committed to improving the health of their employees – and are now working towards gaining an award in recognition of keeping staff and their business healthy.
Councillor John Fulham, St Helens Council’s Cabinet Member for Growth, said: “A positive workplace is good for business, workers and the wider economy, which is why St Helens Council is providing funded support and guidance to local business to achieve Workplace Wellbeing Charter. Getting an award is a great way for your organisation to get recognition for the work you have done supporting staff health. It also improves corporate image and helps your business attract the best staff. “
Business owners interested in workplace health can chat to members of the Healthy Living team and St Helens Council’s Business Liaison Officer, Sue Waller, at their stall which will be on display at the St Helens Business Fair at Haydock Park Racecourse on Thursday 27 April. The team will be there from 10:30am to 3:00pm to offer support and advice.
