Final Call For People To Get Their Spring COVID-19 Vaccination

With the spring COVID-19 vaccination offer ending on Tuesday 17 June, the NHS in Cheshire and Merseyside is urging those eligible who haven’t yet had their COVID-19 vaccination to come forward as soon as possible to protect themselves and their friends and family.

The national NHS booking system remains open for appointments until Monday 16 June. Eligible groups include adults aged 75 years and over, residents in care homes for older adults, and people with a weakened immune system who are at higher risk of severe illness.

The COVID-19 vaccine offers significant protection against various strains of the virus reducing the risk of critical illness, hospital admission, long COVID and helps reduce transmission. We know that people who are immunosuppressed may have a reduced ability to fight infections and other diseases, including COVID-19, and receiving the vaccine reduces the chances of getting seriously unwell.

Data from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) shows that those who received a COVID-19 vaccine last spring were more than 40% less likely to be admitted to hospital with the virus for up to two months after vaccination, compared to those who did not receive one.

“This is your final chance to get the spring COVID-19 vaccine and top up your protection against the virus for the coming months.

“You don’t need to wait until you’re invited, if you are eligible, please come forward to book your appointment or visit a walk-in clinic as soon as possible, as the spring programme ends on Tuesday 17 June.”

Dr Fiona Lemmens, Deputy Medical Director for NHS Cheshire and Merseyside, said

Monday 16 June is the last day to book an appointment for your COVID-19 vaccination via the NHS website, the NHS App or by calling 119.
