Sam has had a curiosity in health matters since late last century, and could never understand why people are always being told what was good for us and that they the professionals knew best! Where was the “patient” in the equation? It seemed odd that the professionals never looked at the person as a sentient human being only as a condition or a diagnosis or even a time factor!
It was only when he had his illness did he seriously engage with services, not only those that concerned himself but other people, e.g. Heart, Diabetes, cycle cell anaemia and prescribing of pharmaceuticals. He started from the Mental Health Forum, Peoples Voice, 5 Boroughs Partnership trust, St. Helens LINk, the Mental Health Research Network (North West), and now is moving on towards what is personally important and where he can do the most good, e.g. active with Senior Voice as they are the older person’s voice for the borough, and health concerns only end, when you end.
